A paddle on the Brunswick River followed by brunch sounds like a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning – and that is just what the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce has organised for this Sunday.

Business people, local residents, canoe enthusiasts and their families are invited to attend the eco-friendly family fun morning from 9am to noon.

“Many people talk about getting a kayak and paddling on the river one day,” said chamber executive officer Kim Rosen, “but just don’t get around to it for whatever reason.

“It would also be great for the local paddlers to make contact with each other.”

The gathering will be at the western end of Memorial Park in the shade by the small beach, and everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic rug or chair, sun protection, plus any picnic extras such as balls to kick or kites to fly.

“We’re hoping that local canoe and kayak enthusiasts might like to enjoy a paddle on the river early in the morning,” said Kim, “and then join the gathering for the hearty barbecue brunch.

“They can share a few tips and inspire others to take up kayaking.”

Beginners or would be paddlers are also welcome to play in the river, with Brunswick Buccaneers generously providing a few canoes that can be hired for free during the morning.

Eggs, bacon, tomato, rolls, fruit salad and drinks will be available, and while there are no pre-sale tickets, RSVPs to the Visitor Centre on 6685 1003 by Friday November 20 would be very helpful with the catering.

Any fundraising proceeds will go towards the Visitor Centre and the production of the new Brunswick River Guide, which the committee is hoping to have out before Christmas.

“Come and socialise, network or chill out with your family and the local community before the hectic Christmas season begins,” said Kim.

“It will be fun.”
