Friends raise funds for library

It has been a long fight to get a new library at Byron Bay and with a development application expected to be lodged soon, the dream is getting closer to reality.
But at a cost of around $5 million, it’s not coming cheaply.
Money is still needed to help equip the new facility when it’s built, which is why members of Friends of the Library (FOL) were helping to sell surplus library books at a recent street stall outside the present library.
Byron Council’s director of governance and community services, Mark Arnold, said staff, in conjunction with the architect, were finalising the statement of effects and the associated documents to be submitted with the library DA.. Mr Arnold said the process was well advanced.
