School should be free for 457 migrants

SKILLED migrants should not have to pay school fees for their children while in Australia, the peak body for migration agents urges.

A submission from the Migration Institute of Australia has called for school fees to be abolished for 457 workers.

MIA chief executive Angela Chan said those travelling with their families faced bigger costs, and allowing their children to access free public school, could help attract more qualified workers. She said senior managers on 457 visas were often compensated, but many skilled tradespeople were not.
