GUNS were swapped for knives in NSW trouble spots where police were called to four stabbings in 24 hours this week.
In Sydney's west, a 44-year-old man allegedly had his forehead slashed during a domestic fight at Merrylands on Thursday night.
A 39-year-old woman was charged with unlawful wounding.
Less than an hour later, in the nearby suburb of Westmead, a 30-year-old woman was discovered on the floor of her home with a stab wound to her chest.
She underwent surgery at the Westmead hospital where she remained in a serious condition on Friday night.
Police were looking for a man in dark clothing who was seen leaving the area.
At Guilford, also out west, a 42-year-old man was stabbed twice in the stomach when he refused to hand his bag over to a trio of robbers.
He was also taken to Westmead hospital in a stable condition.
On Friday morning police in the state's north charged a man over a knife attack outside a home at Wingham, near Taree.
A 42-year-old man was attending a party when he was allegedly struck in the face and eye-lid.
He was treated at the Manning Base Hospital where he remained in a stable condition.
A 34-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
