Four locals make football rep squad

Four players from the Football Far North Coast (FFNC) under-13s representative team have been selected to represent Northern NSW Football in the upcoming national championships in Canberra.

Suffolk Park's Ben Butler joins Jaiden Walker and Kalen Petrie of Lismore and Sam Kerry of Wollongbar as the only four players from outside Newcastle to make the squad.

Ben has been with FFNC for three years and the Byron Bay Rams for five.

“He has done remarkably well over the last couple of years, with massive improvements on a weekly basis,” said FFNC coaching and development manager, John Sowter.

“He's a very talented boy who could go a long way in football.

“It's a tremendous achievement for a small rural zone to get so many players into the squad. All at FFNC are very pleased.

“Big thanks to Ben's mum and dad, Jeff and Karen, who get him to training twice a week.

“We'd all like to wish Ben and the the others good luck for the national championships that are being used as a selection trial for the Australian under-13s squad to play in Vietnam in June.

"Further honours are possible.

“I can't tell you what a huge achievement this is for the boys and us."
