Former Bandidos boss arrested after fleeing to Thailand

A BRISBANE bikie club's former president has been charged after returning from Thailand, almost 12 months after police raided properties in Brisbane, Logan and on the Gold Coast.

The dawn raids in March last year led to the arrest of nine "patched members" of the Bandidos Criminal Motorcycle Gang.

Today, a 26-year-old has been charged with 10 counts of extortion, two charges for threatening violence and one count each for stalking and assault causing bodily harm.

Police allege members of the Bandidos West End chapter in Brisbane were extorting money and property from gyms.

Jewellery worth up to $24,000 and $16,000 in cash was involved in one case, according to police.

One victim was even forced to set up a direct debit from their account to pay the gang.

Another victim required facial reconstruction surgery after a violent attack shattered his eye socket, nose and left his teeth chipped.

Threats were allegedly made by the gang involving a handgun and baseball bat, police say.

The 26-year-old is alleged to have been the Sergeant-at-Arms at the Bandidos chapter, before becoming president.

He returned to Australia after "negotiations".

The man is to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Taskforce Maxima's Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said this latest arrest "revealed the true nature of criminal motorcycle gangs".

"They work together to standover and bully people as a group.

"Today's result demonstrates our commitment to ensure offenders face the consequences of their actions, regardless of the passage of time and their attempts to flee our jurisdiction."
