Ford slashes 300 jobs from car making plants

FORD will cut 300 jobs at its manufacturing plants in Geelong and Broadmeadows from June.

A company spokesperson Wes Sherwood blamed the cuts on decreasing demand for Ford verhicles, the ABC has reported.

"As part of the lowering demand for our larger vehicles, we are reducing production of our Falcon and Ford Territory by a third in June with related job losses," he said.

Unions and manufacturing partners were told of the decision today.

The company currently makes 133 Falcons and Territories per day but the cuts will see this number reduced to 88.
