Fog blankets Northern Rivers
FROM Evans Head in the south, Bangalow in the north and Cawongla in the west, residents on the Northern Rivers woke to a very thick blanket of fog this morning.
Nigel Weekes of Evans Head Coast Guard said the fog was not only one of the thickest he had seen but also the longest.
“I couldn't see the surf club and I'd say visibility was around 10 to 20 metres if you're lucky,” he said.
“The fog was in around 6am when I started my shift and it didn't leave until 8.24am.”
The 'pea souper' was not a surprise to the weather bureau who said conditions were right for such an event.
“Over night there were light winds and a little bit of moisture that would have helped,” a spokesperson said.
“Light east-northeast winds and humidity was up and high over night, then cool temperatures just before dawn were the biggest factors.”
The bureau have predicted a front coming through for the next couple of days with a shower or two today and tomorrow.
