Five-year-old hit and killed by 4WD

A YOUNG boy has died in hospital after being hit by a car on the NSW mid north coast.

The five-year-old was walking across a street at Kempsey late Tuesday, when he was struck by a west-bound 4WD.

He was taken to Kempsey Hospital where he later died.

The 33-year-old driver was not injured but was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

A crime scene was established and investigations were continuing on Wednesday.
