First water-birth baby born at Murwillumbah Hospital

WATER births are now possible at Murwillumbah Hospital.

Lauren Solca became the first woman to opt for a water birth at the hospital since it received accreditation.

"Lauren and partner Dave Warne are the proud parents of baby Grace, born on August 5, their second child.

"Grace's birth was not only memorable for her parents but also for midwives," said midwifery unit manager Cheryl Colley.

"Providing a water-birth option for women is another way the local midwifery-led service offers more birthing choices for women."

Murwillumbah District Hospital operates under the midwifery-led Model of Care, which offers alternatives to traditional maternity care.

"Building a relationship with a midwife has proven successful for women in the region," Ms Colley said.
