Firefighters battling 69 bushfires across NSW
THE first official day of NSW bushfire season brought tough conditions for the hundreds of firefighters battling more than 60 blazes across the state on Tuesday.
Severe fire warnings remained in place for the North Coast and Greater Hunter Regions where the majority of fires continued to burn.
Seven of the 69 fires being fought on Tuesday night remained out of control but no properties were under direct threat.
Smoke continued to slow traffic on the Pacific Hwy near Doyalson on the Central Coast where lanes were re-opened on Tuesday morning following an out of control fire the day before.
The warmest winter on record and dry conditions helped fuel more than 2000 fires in NSW in the past two months.
NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons assured the community 70,000 members and volunteers were ready to combat the above-average fire conditions predicted in coming weeks.
