Virtual fight on Facebook leads to real stitches in the head

A FIGHT on Facebook turned nasty and left an older man needing three stitches in his head.

On October 11, 2013, Tyler Leigh Hodges entered the home of his parents-in-law and caused them bodily harm.

The court heard the 26-year-old was upset after an argument on Facebook about his in-laws keeping a $900 bond.

Hodges' in-laws were supposed to be finding a home for their daughter to live in, however something changed their mind.

It was about 11am when Hodges walked into the in-laws' home on Myall Ave, Warwick.

Hodges kicked the chair his mother-in-law was sitting on and slammed his hand on the desk.

His father-in-law asked him to leave the property.

The court heard the father-in-law was taken to hospital after Hodges hit him over the head with a beer bottle.

Magistrate Graham Lee said there may have been a dispute however it was not the way to go about solving it.

Hodges, who has two young children, was told he needed to step up and set a better example.

"Going around hitting people isn't the way you get what you want. You assaulted and caused bodily harm," the Magistrate said.

Hodges told the court he didn't remember picking up the bottle on the way to his in-laws' house.

The court heard Hodges had moved away from the area and didn't have contact with the in-laws anymore.

Hodges received a six-month wholly suspended sentence.
