Fed Cup fight for Barty's Australians

TENNIS: Australia faces a tough ask against Serbia in a Fed Cup play-off to stay in the World Group II in Zrenjanin this weekend.

Ash Barty, world No.27 Daria Gavrilova, Casey Dellacqua and 16-year-old Destanee Aiava will be trying to stop Australia dropping back to the Oceania zone for the first time since 2009.

World No.87 Barty has had a remarkable return to tennis after playing for the Brisbane Heat in cricket's inaugural Women's Big Bash League.

The 20-year-old Queenslander will play singles and partner Dellacqua in the doubles.

"We feel really good, we're really excited about the tie," Barty told AAP.

"I'm ready to play any match. We have got a team where any person can play any position."

Only Barty and Gavrilova have any first-hand experience of the Serbian team, which is spearheaded by world No.119 Aleksandra Krunic.
