Woman dies in Chinderah blaze

AN elderly woman has died in a caravan fire at Chinderah this morning.

Emergency services were called to the fire inside the Homestead Holiday Park on Chinderah Bay Drive about 8.20am.

Neighbours tried to battle the blaze with garden hoses before firefighters from Tweed Heads, Banora Point and Kingscliff arrived to extinguish the blaze.

The caravan and a nearby car were destroyed.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within 15 minutes of arrival.

The deceased woman was believed to have just recently returned home following a stint in hospital.

Tweed Heads firefighters said the cause of the blaze was being investigated.

Tweed Daily News is seeking comment from Tweed Heads Police.
