Man dies in burning car

A DUNOON man has been burned to death after he climbed back into a vehicle and was trapped following a crash near Mullumbimby early this morning.

Police and emergency services were called to Upper Main Arm about 3am after a Holden Commodore left the road and rolled over an embankment, about six kilometres north-west of the Main Arm village.

The deceased man and his three passengers escaped largely unscathed, but police were told he then climbed back into the vehicle to retrieve some property.

The vehicle then caught alight and the man was trapped inside and died at the scene.

The deceased man, 29, was believed to have been the driver of the car. Two of his passengers were also from Dunoon while another was from Main Arm.

Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) and Forensic Service Group (FSG) officers are examining the scene.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
