THE Byron Bay Fast Fives five-a-side water polo competition is on this Saturday and Sunday at Byron Pool.

This is the 24th year the competition has run and teams from across the North Coast will be competing.

Organiser Brendan Irwin said it was a great opportunity to come along and get a feel for this form of the game.

"It's a faster-paced version of the game with seven-minute halves and the ball is always live," he said.

"It's a great game for swimmers who are looking for a new challenge."

Mr Irwin has been playing the game for the last nine years and compares it to soccer in the tactics employed.

The Byron club is still taking sign-ons. Registration is $120 (over 18) and $60.
