A HERVEY Bay family is in desperate need of help to move their little girl to Melbourne for a vital lung transplant.

Jess Irving is an intelligent 12-year-old, currently bed-ridden in the Hervey Bay Hospital after picking up a bacteria.

She has cystic fibrosis and has been there for about two months as she waits for the next step in her treatment.

But the bubbly girl isn't letting the "boring" hospital get to her, she's making the most of the time she has left in Hervey Bay.

Playing the Sims on Playstation3 or "hanging out with the cool nurses" is what keeps Jess busy.

But the family will be even busier from Tuesday as they make the move to Melbourne and the Royal Children's Hospital.

Mother Trina Noonan and father Mat Irving have found it difficult to watch Jess, with her lung function dropping to 30% from 100% in little more than a year.

"It's heart-breaking- it's been hard - we try to be strong," Mr Irving said.

Once the family reach Melbourne it will be a waiting game. "It's when suitable lungs become available," Mr Irving said.

Currently renting a house in Hervey Bay, they need it cleaned and their car serviced before they make the move.

Sexy Gardens owner Gary Jensen and volunteers from the Maryborough Lunch Bunch have offered to clean the house, inside and out.

With the family also financially struggling, the Hervey Bay community has been asked to rally behind them.

Mayor Gerard O'Connell has invited them to write to him asking for assistance through the Mayoral Community Fund.

But a service for their older car and a pest control treatment for their home are urgently needed.

Because the family is breaking a lease, they can't afford these necessitates.

If you can help with a car service or pest control treatment phone journalist Hayden Johnson on 0438 238 365.
