VICTORIA'S Rose and Josh fulfilled their dream to cook on My Kitchen Rules tonight.
But their Spanish-themed evening was more of a stopover than a Spanish getaway.
Josh, 18, revealed to their dinner guests that he's been waiting for four years until he was old enough to audition for the reality cooking show, now in its sixth season.
Their chorizo-stuffed calamari bucked the trend of disappointing entrees in the current second round of instant restaurants.
"We're very glad that you entered this competition," judge Pete Evans said.
"If this is the type of food we can expect from you, bring it on."
Frenchman Manu Feildel said the show's first mother-and-son team brought back memories of him cooking with his own mum.
"I can really relate (to) that bond that you've got together," he said.
"This is home cooking at its best."
But their confidence was shaken when Rose and Josh prepared paella, a family favourite, in an unconventional way.
"The flavours were there. The rice was cooked well but I was missing a beautiful crust on the bottom of the paella," Manu said.
"It doesn't sing 'ole' to me."
Before serving the dessert they hosted a Spanish dancing game, and winners Matt and Rob were given trophies.
But perhaps that time would have been better spent in the kitchen, with Rose undercooking their empanadas.
The doughy pastry detracted from the delicious apple and cinnamon filling.
Despite a few setbacks Rose and Josh's score of 66 puts them in second place behind Adam and Carol.
"I have watched my boy turn into a man tonight and I couldn't be prouder," Rose said.
Adelaide's Vicky and Celine are the last team to cook tomorrow night.
