It’s only half completed, but this sculpture is still pretty spectacular.

Called ‘Passages’, the work is made of cast glass and stainless steel and is the creation of Erika Mayer and Tom Koch.

Each individual glass piece, being created at Erika’s Possum Creek studio, represents a shoreline marine creature.

When completed it will join sculptures from more than 60 regional, national and international artists who will be exhibiting their works at artsCape to be held this year along 1.5km of beachfront at Clarks Beach from Saturday, June 26, to July 11.

The official opening ceremony will be held at The Beach Hotel on Sunday, June 27, when prize winners will be announced.

Prizes include the $2000 artsCape Biennial Sculpture Prize, the $1000 Art Piece Gallery Prize, the Linnaeus Sculpture Prize and the artsCape Biennial Local Artist Prize.

There also will be a People’s Choice award to be announced on Sunday, July 11.
