North Coast petroleum exploration licences going to UK group
DART ENERGY, which holds a Petroleum Exploration Licence in the Northern Rivers, is to be merged with the UK's IGas Energy.
Dart purchased PEL445, which covers several thousand square kilometres from Byron Bay to Lismore and Woodenbong, in February 2013 from Arrow Energy.
The merger with IGas means Dart is likely to sell their non- UK assets, including Australian operations.
Nobody from Dart Energy responded to calls and emails from The Northern Star about what the merger would mean for their local gas operations.
But Gasfield Free Northern Rivers spokesman Aidan Ricketts said it would be interesting to see if there were any buyers for a gas exploration licence in the Northern Rivers.
"Gas reserves in the Northern Rivers should be regarded as stranded assets given the overwhelming community opposition to the industry here," he said.
