DAVID and Jenny Levick rolled into Rockhampton in their motorhome yesterday to find the city lit up by the Rockhampton River Festival.

The Brisbane couple had been fulfilling their 'grey nomad' dream of travelling around the country for 14 months, but knew they had to park it by the Fitzroy to join in the celebrations.

"We think it is wonderful! It's so beautiful, we rolled in and there you were; it was just lovely," Jenny said.

"The food and everything is just great, it's not just knick-knacks and things."

David and Jenny were among more than 20,000 people who attended the festival over the weekend, much to the delight of Rockhampton Regional Council's Sarah Reeves.

The manager of Regional Promotions said the festival had gone so much better than predicted that there were already plans to extend the venue's length next year.

"We are looking at three times the attendance than what we hoped for... we have outgrown the venue already, which is great," she said.

"We will be looking to extend it a bit further next year and going to the front of the Empire."

After receiving so much positive feedback from the public, even through the rain on Saturday night, Ms Reeves felt an enormous sense of pride with what had been delivered.

"Just to see the crowds enjoying themselves is absolutely delightful... Rockhampton should be very proud of what they have done.

"This is about the community and when an event this good happens it is a sign of how good this community is; it humbles me," she said.
