Northern Rivers Con students performing in Byron showcase
DIPLOMA in Music student Jordan Lee, 35, is getting ready for his first musical experience on stage this weekend.
Not a stranger to performing, Mr Lee is a former actor who decided to up skill himself in music to achieve his professional goals.
Originally from Lismore, the music student lived in the Gold Coast, Melbourne, the USA and Canada for 13 years, earning a living as an actor, before he came back to Lismore.
"I was doing theatre and film, and writing my own comedy for a long time too," he explained.
"I had a feeling that I had to get back and study music to understand it, so I did."
Mr Lee is not planning to start a career as a singer/songwriter. His plans are a bit more complex than that.
"I want to make cartoons. I am going to SAE next year to complete a diploma in 3D animation.
"I can write the music, write my own comedy and animate my scripts. I can be self sufficient and follow my own path."
Head of Academy Music Alicia Charlestone explained that students at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium can enter a Certificate III in Music or a Diploma of Music.
"At the end of the year the students need to create a project as part of the curriculum.
"I am the event's producer, and the students get to run an event that is a bit more complex than running a pub gig.
"By doing this the students learn about multimedia, risk assessment, public liability, marketing campaigns, press releases and social media."
The evening will showcase original songs written in groups in a variety of styles, from Country to psychedelic rock.
Their original music has been influenced by a long list of artists such as Tame Impala, Sia, Pink Floyd and Johnny Cash, among others.
