Police investigate head-on crash at Walkerston

SUNDAY 6PM UPDATE: THREE people remain in Mackay Base Hospital tonight following a two vehicle accident on Saturday. 

A 64-year-old male driver of one vehicle, and two males aged 47 and 15 who were in a Pajero four-wheel that caught fire afterwards, are reported to be in a stable condition.

Another 15-year-old male was released from hospital earlier today.

UPDATE:

Police are investigating a serious, two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred in Walkerston yesterday afternoon.  

Around 5.25pm, two vehicles collided at the intersection of Stockroute Road and Walkerston-Homebush Road which resulted in one car catching fire.  

All three occupants of the car exited the vehicle before it caught on fire and are believed to have sustained minor injuries.  

The male driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle was transported to the Mackay Base Hospital with head injuries.  

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.

 

EARLIER:

THE Mackay Forensic Crash Unit is on scene at a serious head-on collision between two vehicles at Palmyra.

One of the vehicles had caught fire as a result of the crash and needed to be put out by firefighters, a police spokesman said.

The two vehicles collided at the corner of Stockroute and Walkerston Homebush Rd about 6pm tonight.

All emergency services were called to the site.

The police spokesman said it was believed emergency crews were working to remove a person trapped inside one of the vehicles.

No more is known at this stage.
