Starting out as an alternate, Ericson was not guaranteed to surf, however a no-show provided him the opportunity into the first round.
Dominating the field by placing first in every heat, apart from his semi-final where he placed second, Ericson has secured his place in the final to be held at Cronulla.
Posting a 6.17 and a 6.77 (out of a possible 10), Ericson’s total of 12.94 (out of a possible 20) was too good for other surfers Max Ashford (Matraville), Chris Salisbury (Newport) and Tamaroa McComb (Burleigh Heads), who placed second, third and fourth respectively.
The final was not without its drama. With McComb only needing a small score to overtake Ericson for the lead, an interference was called on McComb for dropping in on Ayshford.
This sent McComb to last place, allowing Ericson to hold on to the lead and take top spot.
All four surfers in the final go through to the trials at Cronulla this weekend.
