Elderly woman robbed for only 40 cents and a camera

A WOMAN suffered a fractured shoulder and broken nose after she was robbed in a Nambucca Heads street last night.

The 74-year-old woman was with her 90-year-old husband in Ridge Street about 7.15pm on Monday when they were approached by a young man.

Police have been told the man grabbed the woman's handbag and punched her in the face, breaking her shoulder and nose.

She was knocked unconscious to the ground before the youth ran from the scene.

The handbag, with a purse containing 40 cents and a camera, was taken.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Macksville Hospital.

She remains there in a stable condition being treated for the fractures as well as cuts to her arms and legs.

Police have a description of a youth they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries. He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged about 16 years old.
