Eddie Obeid set to be suspended from Labor Party

EDDIE Obeid is set to be officially suspended from the NSW Labor Party amid sensational allegations he and other high profile politicians were involved in a $100 million mining scandal.

An inquiry into the actions of three former Labor ministers heard on Monday that taxpayers had been jibbed "tens of millions of dollars" as a result of coal approvals being handed out as "gifts".

State Opposition Leader John Robertson told reporters on Monday the allegations were "shocking".

He is expected to move a motion to suspend Mr Obeid when NSW Parliament resumes on Tuesday.
