Driver gets four years jail for fatal Miriam Vale crash

YEPPOON man Justin Colthup was sentenced to four years in jail after his girlfriend and her pregnant sister-in-law were killed in a head-on collision near Miriam Vale in 2011.

Colthup, 21, pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton District Court to one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and grievous bodily harm after he dozed off at the wheel south of Rockhampton during the early hours of an August 2011 morning.

Colthup's girlfriend was killed instantly, while another passenger, believed to be Colthup's girlfriend's brother, received bowel injuries.

He will be eligible for parole in February next year.
