AFTER more than four decades in print, the last issue of Dolly magazine will go on sale on December 5.
Mumbrella reports Bauer Media confirmed on Wednesday they are axing the print edition of Dolly.
The closure comes several months after the publisher switched the publication to a bi-monthly instead of a monthly.
Bauer Media CEO Nick Chan said in a statement today's Dolly readers engage with the brand more online than in print.
"Dolly readers predominantly engage with the brand on digital and social platforms and they do so with greater frequency than is possible with a bi-monthly magazine - this means it's no longer feasible to continue publishing the magazine on a regular basis," Mr Chan said.
First launched in 1970, the magazine's circulation has dropped significantly in the last four years.
According to Audit Bureau of Circulation figures, Dolly dropped from a circulation of 90,000 in 2012 to 30,000 in 2016.
In January, Bauer Media ceased publication of Cleo magazine after 44 years.
The last issue of the magazine went on sale in February.
