Convicted murderer gets discounted sentence for guilty plea

A CONVICTED double murderer, who waved a gun outside a Coffs Harbour home as a terrified woman hid inside, has faced a Sydney Court.

Ray William Hornby, 52, was arrested in 2011 after a woman phoned 000 to say he was outside her home and attempting to come in.

Police were told by a neighbour that Hornby had been holding a shortened firearm before fleeing.

The gun was later found hidden in bushland.

Hornby was sent back to jail where he spent much of his younger life for two separate murders committed in NSW more than 20 years ago.

Earlier this year, a jury found him guilty of assault occasioning bodily harm and possessing offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence.

He has since pleaded guilty to a string of other offences relating to the firearm possession and attempting to influence a witness.

The Sydney District Court heard on Tuesday, he would be entitled to a 25% discount off his head sentence as his guilty pleas had saved the female victim the trauma of facing him in court again.

A sentencing date was set for next Friday, July 26.
