DINOSAUR Jr are coming back to Byron Bay in January, touring off the back of their new album, Give A Glimpse of What Yer Not.
The band was founded by J Mascis (guitar, vocals, primary songwriter), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals), and Murph (drums).
The new release is their first since 2012 and their fourth since the band's reformation in 2005.
The band's first self titled album was released in 1985, and kept on producing alt-rock music until 1997 with Hand It Over.
But it was in 2007 that the original members of Dinosaur Jr released Beyond and they keep coming up with music their long-term and new fans love.
From Massachusets, USA, drummer Murph spoke about the new album.
"The album is really just J (Mascis) being in the moment," he said.
"He had ideas and thoughts for songs, which he records as basic tracks, and then Lou (Barlow) and I come in.
"I record the drums first, and then the three of us work on the songs so they start becoming Dinosaur Jr songs.
"There is never any thought of what they are going to be like, they come out the way they come out," he said.
Murph said the band will bring the classics from a catalogue that now stands at eleven albums tall, with hits such as Repulsion, Almost Ready, Little Fury Things, Watch The Corners, Freak Scene, Tiny, The Wagon, Out There, Feel The Pain, and more.
"We are going to play at least five songs from the new record, plus a mix from the old records," he explained.
"We are playing a long set lately.
"We have been playing an hour and a half and it's been very energised. I think you are in for a treat, it will be a great show."
Murph said the band is happy to continue pushing the boundariues of what a rock song should sound like.
"We are growing, and J is always thinking about his sound and the way he sounds in each record," he said.
"In this record, the songwriting is really strong and we are really starting to come into our own when writing songs."
