Depleted Devils lose to Ghosts
With a man down for most of the game, the Byron Bay Red Devils were defeated 24-4 by competition front-runners Grafton Ghosts in the NRRRL competition at Byron Bay on Sunday.
The game was ruined as a spectacle when Byron Bay’s star centre, Clarence Kelly, was sent from the field in the seventh minute of the game for an alleged high tackle.
With an extra man, Grafton constantly found space out wide and went to the break with a 14-4 lead and were never headed in the game.
To their credit, the Bay hung in tough and held Grafton to the half-time score for most of the second half.
But the effort took its toll, with Grafton adding 10 points in the last five minutes.
The Reserves had another solid win after leading 14-12 at the half-way mark.
The 21-12 win was the fifth on the trot.
Cross-shire rivals Mullumbimby Giants were downed 42-22 by Murwillumbah.
