Demand to replace lost package costs firm more than $6k

A TRANSPORT firm has been forced to cough up more than $6000 to replace a lost package originally bought for $22.48 at auction.

McAleese Transport in Gladstone were asked to pick up and deliver two industrial pump components for Wacol-based parts supplier M & Q Equipment, after it scored a particularly good deal under the hammer.

But when the part was lost in transit, M & Q demanded it be replaced - a demand that would eventually cost McAleese $6478.65.

M& Q might have paid $22 for the two parts, but its legal team told QCAT the company could not replace the loss for any less.

In September last year, M & Q launched a case in the Queensland Civil and Administration Tribunal in Ipswich, which McAleese intended to appeal earlier this year.

On March 15, the request to appeal was rejected and McAleese ordered to replace the parts at market price.
