Delly: The Movie coming soon to a screen near you

BASKETBALL: Forty years to the day since the first Rocky movie appeared on the big screen, the story of Australian Matthew Dellavedova is set to get the Hollywood treatment.

Dellavedova's management said the story of a kid from regional Victoria going on to become an NBA champion would go into production next year.

"Delly's inspirational story about overcoming the odds is one everyone can relate to," manager Bruce Kaider said.

Dellavedova said he was "honoured" the producers felt his journey was worthy of its own movie.

"I am thrilled to be working with this incredible group to tell my story to inspire kids around the world to dream big and that hard work and perseverance pays off," he said.

After going undrafted out of St Mary's College in California, Dellavedova exploded on to the international scene with a breakout performance for Cleveland in its unsuccessful NBA finals campaign against Golden State in 2015.

The Cavaliers got their revenge this year, although the Australian played a considerably diminished role.

Dellavedova received a huge pay increase when the Milwaukee Bucks signed him for this season as a free agent to a $51.4 million deal over four years.
