Dating between the sheets on national TV?

WHY would someone strip down to their underwear in front of a perfect stranger, and the nation?

It turns out not everyone finds the prospect that daunting.

Dozens of singles were willing to go on a blind date, knowing full well they'd spend the majority of the time in just their knickers for SBS's revealing new series Undressed.

The "diverse" dating show had tongues wagging on social media after its premiere on Monday.

Based on an Italian format, each episode of Undressed features two pairs of strangers who meet in a room furnished only with a bed and a large-screen TV. Instructions and questions flash up on the screen, guiding the strangers through the process.

The first directive is for the participants to strip each other down to their underwear. As the experiment continues, the couple get into the bed and answer a series of probing and deeply personal questions.

At the conclusion of the date, each person is given the choice to stay and get to know their counterpart better or to leave.

"What I love about this series is that it's as equally smart as it is funny and as honest as it is bold and daring," executive producer Jennifer Collins says.

Sunshine Coast graphic designer Jackson, who will feature on the show next month, tells ARM's The Guide he was surprised at how comfortable he felt during his blind date with a woman named Candice.

"Before I walked onto the set I could see all the people and the cameras, but once I was in there I forgot about it and went along with everything.

"It wasn't as strange as I thought it would be. It sounds crazy but it's one of those things you've got to try once."

Undressed airs Mondays at 9.30pm on SBS.
