A SAUCY but child-friendly burlesque routine will headline one of Ipswich’s biggest dance events.
Dancing Tiger Studio holds its most popular event of the year, the sixth annual Dance of Colours Workshop and Concert, next Saturday night.
The highlight will be a burlesque show performed by the Bellylicious Burlesque Bombshell Babes.
Burlesque has become increasingly popular thanks to performers such as Dita Von Tease.
Dancing Tiger principal Rachelle Houston said there had been such interest in the flirtatious form of dance that the studio would be introducing burlesque classes later this year.
“It’s a flirty dance that is all about the tease,” Ms Houston said.
“There is no nudity and the show will be for all ages.
“The form of burlesque that this group does is vintage which really is about the art form of the dance not about stripping.
“Myself and the teachers here are all mothers and we would not put on a show our kids couldn’t watch.
“Its all about the costumes and the attitude.”
The concert will be held in the hall of Ipswich State High School next Saturday, June 11, from 6pm but there will also be various dance workshops at the hall held across that weekend.
Workshops include a course on ballet for belly dancers, drum solo choreography and sword work.
“This is our biggest event of the year and we are expecting a large crowd to come and celebrate dance,” Ms Houston said.
Ms Houston and her fellow Dancing Tiger instructors are primarily belly dancers.
But they hope to secure a teacher to lead burlesque classes soon.
“Dancing Tiger will actually be holding classes in vintage burlesque so Ipswich people can learn the art of the tease,” Ms Houston said.
