Dad shares heartbreaking pictures of dying daughter
A FATHER has shared heartbreaking pictures of his dying daughter online to mark her 18th birthday, after the young woman tried to take her own life following online bullying.
UK man Adrian Derbyshire shared four pictures of his daughter Julia lying in hospital on Facebook on what would have been her birthday.
They were taken just moments before her death and shared in a bid to end the stigma associated with bullying and mental health.
"I can't tell you all how I feel as I've gone past the line of devastation & loss but this devastating story of a beautiful young woman who had given up on herself and life due to others NEEDS TO BE HEARD," he wrote, tagging the UK government in the post.
"This will be difficult but I want you all to share this post. AWARENESS is the only way I know to support others and after reading this they may seek help and support."
The Paralympian and antibullying campaigner captioned the pictures with #SASSY (Support against self-harm and suicide in youth). He said he had taken the pictures 17 months ago but had "buried" them on his phone.
Julia tried to take her own life after being targeted in online groups. She collapsed at home and Mr Derbyshire tried to give her CPR before taking her to hospital.
After the story went viral he followed up with another post saying thank you for the thoughts and messages he received and releasing the pictures was "one of the hardest decisions I've had to make".
He also reposted the content of a letter Julia had written to her friends which said "Fight and push harder for what you believe in, you'd be surprised, you are much stronger than you think!"
"Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded.
"To everyone who says this is wrong to feel like this say, "I was born this way baby, you can't change me".
"Thank You all for making the girl who felt like a freak, feel like she belongs." (sic)
