Nicolas Roche only third Irishman to lead Tour of Spain

NICOLAS Roche (Saxo Bank) was only the third Irishman to hold the overall lead in the Tour of Spain ahead of stage nine.

Stage nine is a 163.7km ride from Antequera to Valdepenas de Jaen.

The 29-year-old Roche, son of 1987 Tour de France winner Stephen, finished third in stage eight and had a 17-second lead overall from American Chris Horner (Radioshack).
