Curryfest gets hotter and spicier

EACH year Curryfest continues to get hotter and spicier, capturing flavours and colours from India and around the world.

The fifth annual Curryfest will begin at the Woolgoolga Beach Reserve on Saturday from 9am.

Top of the program this year will be entertainment acts including DJs Punjabi Groove Masters (PGM) from Sydney, comedian Sandy Gandhi from Byron Bay and some fabulous drumming groups.

The entertainment will continue at night with a feature cabaret performance at the Woolgoolga Bowling Club from 7.30pm.

Throughout the day the smells, sounds and spices of India will fill the air.

One of the inaugural members of the Curryfest committee, Coffs councillor and face of the Northern Beaches, John Arkan, will not only be demonstrating how to tie a turban but showing how the beautiful breads of the region are prepared and cooked.

Breads are a part of the staple diet in Punjabi cuisine and Cr Arkan will demonstrate how to make the favoured and well known pappadams, roti, and stuffed and normal paranthus that are routinely eaten with meals.

Woolgoolga restaurateur Mick Hundal will also show the crowd how to make the perfect lamb curry. As well as presenting the various cuisines of the region, there will be a fashion parade showcasing the stunning saris of the Punjabi women.

Curryfest will take place this Saturday and a $2 entry fee will apply.
