Creepy clown in the streets keeps locals on watch
THE UK city of Northampton is being stalked by an anonymous creepy clown who stands on on street corners and staring at passers-by.
The clown, who bears a striking resemblance to Pennywise from the 1990 film It, adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name, first appeared on Friday 13th and was spotted again over the weekend.
The Northampton Herald and Post reported the clown appeared in several locations in the Abington and Kingsley areas of the town, sometimes carrying a clown teddy.
The newspaper also reports that the clown knocked on someone's door and offered to paint their window sills despite having no painting equipment.
A Facebook page titled Spot Northampton's Clown appeared on Friday the 13th and has since attracted almost 49,000 followers.
The page claims to be owned by the clown and on Friday included the post: "To prove i'm real to all the lovers and doubters, i'll see you in town today. Keep those eyes peeled".
The clown's appearance has drawn mixed reactions on Facebook, with one Australian getting in on the action, inviting him to come Down Under.
"You should come to Australia and meet our new Prime Minister - he's a clown too," the post reads.
However, not all posts are in favour of the spontaneous appearances, claiming many people are terrified of clowns.
"But so many people are scared of clowns.. and its not really making people happy, its scaring most people!..there are better things h could do to make people happy tbh:/," one poster wrote.
Another said: "People are saying that the clown is knocking on windows at night and scaring people, that would be enough to give an elderly person a heart attack....."
