Gympie couple now running microbrewery in Norway
A LOT can change in an instant. Just ask Gympie man Cameron Manson.
Mr Manson has swapped the Gold City in favour of freezing Oslo, Norway, where he has invested in a "nano brewery" - making beer that has Norwegian tastebuds craving more.
What prompted the drastic intercontinental move was, quite naturally, love.
Mr Manson was studying business management at the University of Queensland in 2008.
He was at a lecture when he first set eyes on a young Norwegian woman.
"She had the blonde hair and blue eyes so I shot-gunned her first," he laughed.
Fast track seven years and now that Norwegian student, Fam, is Mrs Manson.
Mr Manson reckons life could not be better. The pair has been living in Oslo for five years, and married earlier this month in a late afternoon beach ceremony at Hidden Grove, Noosa.
Seventeen of Mrs Manson's family and friends from Norway made the trip out to Australia for the wedding and were blown away by the secluded Sunshine Coast location.
"It was just so exciting for them and very different from what they are used to back home," she said.
The wedding was personalised right down to the last detail, including individualised water bottles for guests featuring labels with the happy couple's names.
Mr and Mrs Manson honeymooned on Hamilton Island before flying out for Norway on February 21.
The brewery business in Norway has been a labour of love for the couple and Mr Manson was keen to get back there to work.
"It's a small scale operation but we make a wide variety of beers," he said.
The idea to launch into a nano brewery came about years ago when Mr Manson and his brother tested their brewing creativity at home.
Mrs Manson works as a human resources consultant for a coffee chain in Norway and chips in with the brewery when she can, along with providing plenty of moral support and eagerness to taste test.
"I think the brewery is really cool," she said. "There are so many rules (in Norway) with alcohol but Cameron has done a good job."
The nano brewery is set up in a rented garage and customers are demanding more.
As for Mr Manson's next creation, that is anyone's guess, but the idea is no doubt fermenting.
