Countdown on to festival as marquees go up

THE marquees are going up and the site is a hive of activity as the countdown is on to the 15th annual Byron Bay Writers’ Festival.
Being held at the North Beach site, workshops will start next Monday, with the three-day festival program starting on Friday, August 5.
Festival director Candida Baker said the site looked wonderful.
“The grass has been mowed and the ground is dry and everything is proceeding on schedule,” she said.
“The renovated restaurant being run by North Byron Events looks amazing and will be a great place to drop by for a coffee or a meal during the festival.”
Ms Baker said ticket sales were going “great guns” and it was looking like record numbers would attend.
“As long as the weather stays fine, and the forecast is saying it will be dry, we are in for a fabulous and passionate event,” she said.
A record number of writers this year will be involved in three days of marquee events and conversations, book launches, literary lunches and dinners, workshops and a host of off-site events.
“With more international guests than ever before, a performance tent, sculpture prize and off-site events, we know that visitors will take away some wonderful memories,” Ms Baker said.
“I believe we have a program that is rich, diverse and full of passion.”
