Skateboarder cops fine for hitching ride on police car

A MAN who hitched a ride home from the pub by holding onto a police car while riding a skateboard was fined $300 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this morning.

Timothy Desmond Clifton Croft pleaded guilty to one count each of public nuisance and obstructing police after he was caught rolling down Stanley St at 12.30am on November 7.

The court heard police told Croft to stop multiple times before he latched onto the side of the police car and rode his skateboard alongside.

Police prosecutor Manon Barwick told the court Croft was heavily intoxicated at the time and verbally abused police when they told him to stop.

"He was making his way across town to go home on a skateboard," defence lawyer Brian Mr McGowran said.

Croft was sentenced to 40 hours' community service.
