A BEACH shack has risen from the ashes of demolition right in the heart of Coolum Beach.

Except it's not quite what you'd expect.

My Place restaurant on David Low Way has had a major redecoration to incorporate a beach shack feel to become My Place, My Shack.

Owner, David Hadid, has scoured several of the beach shacks up for demolition on the Sunshine Coast to recreate his restaurant with a beach shack feel.

"I read the story on beach shacks (in the Daily) and I thought 'wow, what a great idea' (to preserve a beach shack)." Mr Hadid said.

But as he didn't own a beach shack, he did the next best thing.

He closed the business for a week and redid the inside to recreate the feel of yesteryear.

"I live opposite First Bay (at Coolum) and I have admired and been inspired by the beach shacks," Mr Hadid said.

While Mr Hadid's restaurant has always been popular, he was looking for a change for something more worthwhile

"I wanted my life to be more humble, more simple," he said.

"I was inspired by the whole thing, this is what I wanted for my life.

"To buy a shack and live simply.

"I've done (the renovation) from my heart and I've captured the original Coolum beach shack look.

"I'm so happy I did it, a lot of people love its humble simplicity.

"That's the thing about it, it gives you more passion.

"It shows how Coolum has changed from beach shack and a little town.

"I wanted to keep the tradition of Coolum."

In more good news for beach shack lovers, one of Coolum's most iconic beach shacks, the "guitar house" has been saved from demolition, for now at least.

Owner, Mal Luke, said plans for Reed Property Group to redevelop the beach shack he owned on David Low Way were not going ahead.

However, he said at some point in time, the property would no doubt be redeveloped.
