Competitors race in for ‘Hell’ event

ORGANISERS of Goondiwindi's Hell of The West triathlon believe the 2014 edition of the event will be its biggest to date.

The gruelling 102km race is one of the biggest dates on the Goondiwindi calendar and anticipation is growing for the February 2 event.

Consisting of a 2km swim, 80km ride and 20km run during the peak of the summer heat, the HOTW is not for the faint of heart.

With a major sponsor announced in E&E Waste and entries for the event growing, things are looking good for organisers.

"Owner Shane Maguire and his crew at E&E Waste have been great supporters of the HOTW so we are very excited that they have increased their support this year," HOTW president Pip Bagshaw said.

"After a sell-out event in 2013, we are excited to announce that the 2014 HOTW race has been selected by Triathlon Australia as part of their exclusive National Long Course Qualify Series.

"The committee would also like to thank all the local business and volunteers that support this iconic event and hope to see plenty of locals competing and volunteering this year."

Entries to the E&E Waste HOTW on February 2 are open, with 400 individuals and 50 teams already entered.

In 2014 the event is limited to only 650 competitors.
