GET set for a hot new compact SUV from Hyundai if the name is any indication.
Hyundai will call its B-segment SUB Kona, named after Hawaii's iconic Big Island destination.
Kona is also the Ironman World Championship home, where every October the world's best long course triathletes compete in what's regarded as the world's toughest one-day event - a 3.8km swim, 180km ride and then a 42.2km run.
It's unclear whether the Hyundai Kona will have similar enduring aspects, with only a teaser image released. Hyundai Australia has confirmed the new model will be coming here in the second half of 2017.
This model will be late to the booming SUV party, coming up against the Mazda CX-3, Ford Ecosport, Mitsubishi ASX, Holden Trax and Honda HR-V.
While a high-riding five-door wagon, it's expected to be based on the Hyundai i20.
The Hyundai Kona continues the marque's tradition of naming crossover and SUV models after acclaimed travel destinations - including the Santa Fe and Tucson.
"The island's energetic image is reflected in the innovative, practical and highly functional design of Hyundai's new lifestyle-focused SUV,” a statement said.
"The KONA has also been developed with a focus on enhancing driving dynamics, as Hyundai looks to set new performance standards for the compact SUV segment. KONA delivers best-in-class interior space and innovative design features that hint at the future direction of the brand's next generation of SUV models.”
