A NIGHT of celebration and fundraising will be held tomorrow (Friday) at the Mullumbimby Ex-services Club to honour two much-loved Byron Shire residents and mates, Jeff Schneider and Darryl Essery.
Jeff and Darryl were involved in a motorcycle accident last month while holidaying in Far North Queensland.
Jeff was tragically killed and Darryl received extensive injuries which will require many months of recovery.
"Many people in the community were saddened by the accident and this is one small way we can help support these two wonderful local families through the tough times ahead," fundraising co-ordinator Melissa McMillan said.
The night will feature local bands, dancers, auction and a monster raffle.
"With Mandy Nolan as MC, the night is guaranteed to be full of laughter and fun while raising funds for a couple of great blokes," Ms McMillan said.
Some of the items up for auction include a former World Moto-GP Champion Valentino Rossi signed shirt, a signed 2011 Wallabies team football and a signed Don Bradman print.
Monster raffles prizes include gift vouchers from the Crystal Castle, holidays, wine, beauty products and more than 30 vouchers from retailers throughout the shire.
All money raised will go towards Darryl's rehabilitation costs and, at the request of Jeff's family, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
"The support from the community has been overwhelming," Ms McMillan said.
"Businesses and people have been very generous with their donations and we've already received more than $2000."
Tickets can be purchased from Byron Shire Council's Mullumbimby office front counter, at the door on the night, or phone 6626 7054. To be held from 6pm, door entry is $15 per person.
