Community centre celebrates makeover with special event

South Golden Beach Community Centre is holding a wine and cheese meet-and-greet evening on Saturday from 5.30pm to 7pm to celebrate the recent hall makeover which included a new paint job, sanding and polishing of the floors.

The centre's acting chairperson Angela Dunlop said the evening was also an opportunity to meet members of the hall committee.

Ms Dunlop said the committee was keen to welcome all residents, new and old, to come along and find out about the hall.

“We're looking for people to inject fresh energy to help revitalise and manage the hall and grounds,” she said.

“The hall is a wonderful community asset located close to the beach and this year's focus will be revamping the grounds with shade trees, tables, chairs and a bbq to create a welcoming recreational space in which residents of our village can gather for picnics and other activities.

“We are encouraging energetic, passionate people to become involved in making the hall a vibrant and vital hub of our community.

“This is a great way in which people can give back to the community through joining the hall committee.”

Ms Dunlop said while all nominations were welcomed, there was a particular need for someone with clerical or secretarial skills to take on the position of committee secretary, which was not that demanding as meetings were held on a bi-monthly basis.

The hall is also available for private parties and functions and can be booked on 66801337.
