Coffs Coast declared natural disaster area by PM and Premier

THE Coffs Coast has been declared a natural disaster area in a joint announcement by the Prime Minister and NSW Premier.

Local State member, Andrew Fraser, welcomed the announcement from Julia Gillard and Barry O'Farrell.

"The heavy rain over the Australia Day long weekend has caused thousands of dollars worth of damage around the area and I was very pleased that the Premier and Prime Minister have acted quickly in authorising the natural disaster declaration," Mr Fraser said.

"Natural Disaster assistance is available to affected residents, small business owners and primary producers in the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area.

"There is extensive road and bridge damage around the area from the inundation of water.

"This announcement will provide support to assist with the cost of restoration and recovery under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements and the NSW Disaster Assistance Arrangements.

"For more information about disaster assistance go to www.emergency.nsw.gov.au "
