PARLIAMENTARY kingmaker Peter Wellington has been nominated as Queensland speaker.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the Sunshine Coast independent MP had been nominated for the role on Friday morning.

She said she would contact opposition leader Lawrence Springborg to seek bipartisan support for Mr Wellington's appointment.

Mr Wellington said the role would not impact on how he represented his Nicklin constituents and did not mean he would support the government in all bills.

The new Parliament will begin sitting from March 24, which will also mark three years to the day since Campbell Newman won the 2012 election.

Ms Palaszczuk said Mr Wellington's "independence and integrity" made him ideal for the role.

Mr Wellington's support of the Labor Party allowed it to form government after the January election.

"I believe my nomination of Peter Wellington for the very important position of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly deserves widespread support," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Parliament will site for 12 weeks this year, with the Queensland Budget to be delivered on July 14.

The government will face Budget Estimates Hearings in August, which have been reinstated after being replaced by "simultaneous committee hearings" by the former government.
