AMONGST the boots, Akubra hats and young men doing 'shoeys' at CMC Rocks Queensland; a true love story was blossoming on Saturday night.
And fitting for a love story, this one has a happy ending.
Fans at this year's country and roots festival, held at Ipswich's Willowbank Raceway, were touched to see Australia artist Morgan Evans invite a burly Rockhampton diesel fitter to get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend.
She said yes and hearts melted.
On Sunday, as country music blared in the background, 24-year-old Brodie Whitcombe, his new fiancé 22-year-old Nadine Hill and country star Morgan Evans caught up to recap the sweet proposal.
The Rockhampton couple's love story struck a chord with Morgan.
Both from Rocky, the pair had never met until the 2016 CMC when fate had them set up their campsites next to each other.
Morgan also met his fiance, American country star Kelsea Ballerini, in 2016 when the pair teamed up to host the CMC awards.
"Brodie reached out to me on Facebook and said he wanted to do it, and I met Kelsea last year at CMC, so I was like, aww, this is too perfect,” Morgan said.
"I was in the States at the time, so I emailed my manager and asked if he could make it happen - I said I had the perfect spot for it in the show.”
Brodie fibbed to Nadine that they had won a meet and greet, and were allowed to stand at the side of the show during Morgan's performance.
He had the ring hidden in his boot and when he moved it to his back pocket the ring fell out the box. "I got it back in and we were straight on stage,” he said. "As soon as my knee hit the ground I felt the energy of the crowd just erupted.”
Nadine, who describes herself as a chatter box, was left speechless.
"I still can't believe it happened,” he said.
The couple will drive back to Rocky tomorrow.
"I said to Brodie before we came here that this CMC wouldn't be as good as last year's, because at last year's CMC we met,” she said. "He's definitely topped it though.”
Morgan remarked at the size of her new engagement ring. Brodie joked "yeah, a few pays went into that one.”
